Silk was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Ilkay Silk is the daughter Peter Silk, a professor and Anna Silk, an actress, director and producer. She is also a playwright. Anna is awed by her mother's job as a play director and also attending rehearsals. Silk was featured in many commercials as a young child. She received a Bachelor's of Arts in 1997 from St. Thomas University in 1997. Theatre St. Thomas was active in at least two productions in the theater's early days which included Seven Menus (1997) and The Kitchen (1999). Silk made the move to Toronto to further her acting career in November 1999. She later, in the decade that followed, she relocated into Los Angeles, California. She met her soon-to-be spouse, Seth Cooperman, at an Actor's workshop held in Los Angeles, in 2007. They were married in a civil ceremony on December 10, 2009 following their engagement. The couple reaffirmed their vows on April 10, 2011, in Fredericton in an Jewish ceremony following her conversion to a Jew.
